Portable Industries
[Back to Design Tour Guide]
The next component is what is called the portable industry. These
technologies are mainly light processing industries, horticulture based, food processing
based which may be independently operated to supply the needs of the new community, local
demand and export. They can also be an upward or downward integration of the main
industry. The search for portable industries appropriate for the Philippine project is
completed. Workers in the portable industries can be:
- dependents of the main industry worker e.g. wife, parents, relatives, children. A ratio
of 1 main industry worker to 5 dependents is factored into the design.
- special skills worker imported into the new community
- social disadvantaged e.g. orphans, disabled, destitute, aged who are cared for by the
community.
The portable industries are viable business units in themselves and portions of profits
are allocated for social care. Social care is in the form of hospitals, free accommodation
for those adopted in the community.
