One very important component is the Education and Research Institutions. Because we already have experts and engineers in the community, it does not take much to make an Educational and Research Institute component. The main role of the Institute is to a) teach the next generation of engineers, b) teach the specialized skills required in running the business operations, c) train skills for export, d) fulfill an education role in the society as an academic technology institute, e) as a vehicle to link with other educational institute and Universities in other countries.

The topics discussed further in this page are the scope of education, the focus of learning, the role of the education component in the transmigration community, the mode of education delivery by maximum use of the Internet and the idea of putting all the educational component of the sites into one University umbrella.

Scope of Educational

Every transmigration site will have an educational institution. This includes

  • formal education for school children,
  • technical and skills education,
  • advance education,
  • scholarships and training at institutes abroad.

This is different from normal educational institute because of the focus.

Focus depends on the Industry

The sites will have different technology focus. A site can be either a coal-mine-power plant complex, a hydro-electric\agricultural complex, a cement plant complex, a fishing, aqua-culture tourism operation. The educational component will focus the industry and technology that the specific site requires.

Role of Education

The role of the education component is to

  • develop the skills and expertise required in the transmigration community. This is the process whereby experts pass on their skills to the next generation. These skills are of international standard and qualification to be used locally at the transmigration site, in the country, or exported overseas.
  • a formal institute for research to work collaboratively with other educational and research institutions domestic and international institutions. This is important in determine technologies needed by the projects. It is possible that technologies with international commercial significance can be developed here.

Mode of Education Delivery

There are two main features of the educational institute.

  • The extensive use of the Internet for research and education. The education delivery is changing because of the impact of Internet and Electronic Commerce. Students can now gain degrees via the Internet. They are called virtual universities.
  • Just-in-time application of knowledge. Immediately as the knowledge is learned, it is applied to the projects. This is possible because the student and the project are in one place. For example, while a student is learning embryo transplant in animals, they are already doing this in actual projects at the transmigration site.

Putting Education in one Umbrella

The educational institutes from the transmigration sites will be consolidated into a University umbrella. This institute will have affiliations with other universities in various international universities.
