Western Australia: The Marine State

In the world of high tech shipbuilding, Western Australia is creating waves

Western Australia leads the world as a builder of high speed, lightweight vessels. The State's shipbuilding industry, mainly based at Jervoise Bay just south of Fremantle, also excels in building tugs, rescue, patrol, fishing, firefighting and offshore supply ships. In fact, Western Australia, "The Marine State", builds more commercial vessels than any other Australian State.

All of this makes Western Australia an obvious first port of call if you're in the market for a new vessel, as well as an ideal base if you're a manufacturer of shipbuilding components and services.

The Western Australian Government welcomes new investment and encourages companies to locate operations in the State.

Some Australian companies would want to expand manufacturing operations to other countries to take advantage of the lower labor cost. The trade-off, however, is the lower skill levels in these countries as well as lower quality tolerance which might translate to a lower quality vessel.
